Lumbee Tribe Welcome Center

EVOKE is honored to be recognized by the American Institute of Architects North Carolina with a 2020 Merit Award. This high honor acknowledges and recognizes exceptional designs by AIA members in North Carolina.  

The Lumbee Tribal Welcome Center welcomes visitors and creates an authentic, sustainable hub for its immediate community. To generate revenue for the tribe and provide a forum for the tribe’s outreach, the program consists of income-generating fuel station, restaurant, craft market and farmers’ market. An outdoor park radiates from the outstretched wings of the building’s canopy, physically linking the enclosed space with the nearby neighborhood and rooting the project to its site. The canopy recalls the wings of a falcon, one of the tribe’s sacred animals, and shelters and unifies the shifting program bars.
