Billy Receives AIA NC Emerging Professional Award
EVOKE Co-founder and Principal Billy Askey was recognized with the 2019 AIA North Carolina Emerging Professional Award at the state’s annual Design and Chapter Awards ceremony in Wilmington, NC. The recognition is awarded to an individual that demonstrates noteworthy achievements and contributions to architectural design, the profession, architectural education, betterment of the local community, and nurturing and mentoring the next generation of architects.
Billy continually blurs the boundaries of traditional architectural practice and education by simultaneously serving as a Professor of Practice at NC State University’s School of Architecture. Head of Architecture at NC State University, David Hill said, “Billy is just one of the most intelligent people but also one of the most caring and one of the best designers I know.” He continued to explain that since serving as an adjunct faculty member, Billy is consistently brought up as the students’ favorite professor, not because he is easy, but because he is an incredibly talented designer. “I think the students see something in Billy that they want to be,” David says.
Billy frequently mentors and shares his passion for architecture with a variety of age and demographic groups—an important attribute he recalls from his own architectural education. Edwin Harris, EVOKE Co-founder and Principal, praises Billy for being “fully invested in anything that he does. His dedication to building up future generations of the architecture field, and through his work, it is clear to see Billy’s exceptional abilities.” As Distinguished Professor of Architecture, Pat Rand said, “we have not heard the last from Billy Askey. The trajectory will continue to be steep and positive!”
Congratulations Billy!
